Sitting Bull Visitor Center Open House
The community is invited to attend an open house for the new Sitting Bull Visitor Information Center located at the Sitting Bull College Campus in Fort Yates, North Dakota immediately adjacent to the Standing Rock National Native American Scenic Byway. The Open House is scheduled for Wednesday, May 15, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Highlights of the open house include a ribbon cutting at the Visitor Center's Medicine Wheel Park by Charles Murphy, Chairman of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and Dr. Laurel Vermillion, President of Sitting Bull College; and a musical flute performance by Kevin Locke who is recognized by the National Endowment for the Arts as a Master Traditional Artist.
The Sitting Bull Visitor Information Center operated by Sitting Bull College will offer travelers useful information regarding local events and places to visit, special events, and a gift shop that will sell a variety of authentic Native American arts and crafts and other unique merchandise.
The Visitor Center is also the new home to the Standing Rock Tribal Tourism Office operated by the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe. The Tourism Office provides Tatanka Okitika Historic Tours offering individualized tours on a first come first serve basis and reservations are recommended. Narrated tours are given along the Scenic Byway in both North Dakota and South Dakota. Stops include the Sitting Bull Burial Site, Standing Rock Monument, Standing Rock Tribal Administration Building, Sitting Bull Visitor Center and other points of interest.
