Welding Certificate

Program Description

The Sitting Bull College Welding Program will teach you the skills you need to get on the job quickly and start gaining the experience that will help you refine your skills and become one of the specialists’ companies are seeking. The profession of welding allows a person to fit into many different career paths due to the demand for those proficient in the art of welding.

Program Outcomes

  • The student will demonstrate good safety measures of all equipment.
  • The student will demonstrate knowledge of OSHA standards for welding safety practices.
  • The student will demonstrate their ability to perform welds utilizing the SMAW, FCAW, and GMAW processes.
  • The student will perform proper welds in the following G plate positions: 1G-Flat, 2G-Horizaontal, and 3G-Vertical, with backing plate.  If successful, students will move on to other certifications.

Career Opportunities

Employment of welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers is projected to grow 8 percent from 2020 to 2030, about as fast as the average for all occupations.

About 49,200 openings for welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers are projected each year, on average, over the decade. Many of those openings are expected to result from the need to replace workers who transfer to different occupations or exit the labor force, such as to retire.
